  I tried Doncaster MINI after South Melbourne were too busy to take my service booking over the phone. I'd had various standards of service at the latter and this was an opportunity to try somewhere new.
  After arriving quite early (7.40am for an 8.30am check in) I was very happy that I was booked in promptly. I was upsold with a $155 wheel alignment during the booking which I probably could have waited for during a tire fit down the track. I also had a cruise control service warning I needed looking at under warranty. Now, the car is a novated lease through a major fleet company and I have a service plan with BMW in place.
  So this is where I had a couple of issues:
  1. When the breakdown of the service is provided to you at the end of the day, they normally go through each line item with you at a desk. This time I was told of some warranty repairs to fix the cruise control without view of the paperwork (and standing in the lounge area). When I opened and reviewed while the consultant was talking I noticed that the repair had been billed back to my lease (high $200s). Upon questioning, within seconds a back up correct print out was retrieved - it was like it was on stand by. It seemed like they were seeing if they could get away with charging it back and deceive me - very strange!! The thing is, many customers with a lease would not bother to check paperwork, and miss this all together - were they playing on this??
  2. The collection time was "between 3 to 4pm" but I agreed on 4pm. My wife drove me over and arrived at 3.40pm where I was told that the car had just finished the wheel alignment and was getting a wash. The car wasn't ready until 4.45pm.. it took an hour to wash and even the car come out wet. Admittedly I was frustrated at this point and ended up shammying the car down myself with the help of a kind service representative. The thing was that my wife was sitting in her own MINI in the car park and watched dozens of BMW owners arriving and leaving in their serviced cars straight away. The trend does seem to be that MINI owners are lower in the pecking order in favour of BMW because it happened at South Melbourne too.
  The upside was that the car drives very well and the warranty issue was fixed same day - for that I'm appreciative and that gets my 2 stars.
  In conclusion, everyone should be treated equally - I am still trying to determine if the lower standard is because I'm 1. In a non-BMW lease 2. Have a service agreement with no charges on the day or 3. Own a MINI, not a BMW.
  I think MINI Garage need to have a stand alone service centre...
  I own 2 MINIs now and was in the market for an upgrade to a JCW Countryman next year. There is a lot to think about before this happens.

  The seatbelt clip on my mini jammed up, and BMW want $700 to fix it.
  
  I don't care what the warranty is, critical failure of the primary safety system in a car only 4 years old should not be considered acceptable by any modern car manufacturer. The fact that the mechanic considers this 'normal wear and tear' raises serious doubts about the integrity of other safety features.
  
  Sorry BMW, but it's not champagne and lattes that make a premiuim brand; you need to actually deliver a safe, reliable product that you are personally willing to stand behind.
